Key Requests and Responses

Despite our requests we have not received confirmation that any future development of the Abbey Stadium will include express and legally binding conditions for the construction and availability of a new Speedway track at Studley Grange.

We have been asked to declare our support by agreeing to the Swindon Motorsports letter dated 27 August 2025 which asserts that Studley Grange represents the “best, and final chance” to secure the future of Speedway in Swindon.

Our Position

We do not agree with this view. Swindon already has a Speedway track and we believe that no action or statement should undermine the future of Speedway at the Abbey Stadium unless and until there are legally binding commitments in place for replacement facilities, as required by NPPF paragraph 104.

Under the circumstances the Swindon Needs Speedway position is to conditionally support the Studley Grange planning application on the express basis that any further development of the Abbey Stadium will include legally binding conditions for the construction and availability of a new Speedway track at Studley Grange.

Call to Action

We call on all supporters to let their voices be heard.

To avoid an issue arising in the planning process we urge you not to endorse the Swindon Motorsports’ suggestion that Studley Grange represents the “best, and final chance” for Speedway in Swindon.

We call on supporters to submit a comment on the Studley Grange Planning Application website as soon as possible and by no later than 11 September 2025.

Comments without planning reasons will be ignored.

It confirms conditional support and we urge you to use it to complete the Wiltshire Council Planning Comment Form.
